Privacy Policy
Mocklay builds desktop software that runs on your computer. This policy explains what we collect — which, by design, is very little.
Last updated October 1, 2026
Mocklay ("we", "us") publishes the Mocklay suite — Mocklay Studio andMocklay Tracker — as native desktop applications for macOS and Windows, and operates mocklay.com. This policy covers those apps and this website.
The short version: our apps are offline-first. Your projects, designs, keywords, and rankings are stored on your own machine. We do not build a profile of you, run third-party analytics or trackers, or sell your data.
1. Who we are
Data controller for this website and product communications: Mocklay, contactable athello@mocklay.com. Where this policy names a "we", it means the people who develop and sell Mocklay software.
2. What we do — and don’t — collect
We only touch data needed to sell you software, deliver it, and answer your messages. That means:
- Purchase data. Your name and email, plus order details, handled by our store provider (Gumroad) to process payment and issue a license key. We receive a notification containing your email and what you bought.
- License activation. When you activate, the app checks your key or email against a license file hosted on our own domain or repository. This request carries the key/email you entered and, like any network request, your IP address. It exists solely to confirm the license is valid.
- Support messages. Anything you email us, kept only to help you.
We do not collect your app projects, screenshots, keywords, rankings, usage statistics, or location from the applications. There is no account, no login, and no phone-home dashboard.
3. How the apps handle data
- Local storage. Mocklay Studio keeps projects in a folder on your computer; Mocklay Tracker keeps apps, keywords, and daily snapshots in a local JSON file. Nothing uploads unless you choose to publish or export.
- Publishing to stores. When you push screenshots to App Store Connect or Google Play, your credentials are stored locally on your machine and requests go directly from the app to the platform you use. We are not a middleman for that traffic.
- AI translation (bring your own key). If you add an OpenRouter or Google Gemini key, requests are sent straight from your device to that provider. Your key never passes through or is stored by us.
- Keyword checks. Mocklay Tracker queries the public Apple iTunes Search API directly from your computer. We never see which apps or keywords you track.
- Update checks. The app may check a small version file on our server to tell you an update exists. This transmits your current version and platform only.
4. This website
mocklay.com is a static marketing site. The contact form does not send data to a server we run — it opens your own email client addressed to us, so a message exists only if you choose to send it. Our hosting provider may keep standard, short-lived server logs (IP address, requested page, timestamp, user agent) used only to keep the site running and secure.
5. Cookies & tracking
This site sets no advertising, analytics, or social-tracking cookies and embeds no third-party tracking scripts. Any cookie or local storage appears only on pages you reach on external services (for example, Gumroad's checkout) and is governed by that provider's own policy.
6. How we share data
We never sell your data. We share the minimum necessary with a small number of processors:
- Payment & delivery: Gumroad, to take payment and deliver the app and license.
- Website hosting: our static hosting provider (server logs only).
- AI & store APIs: only contacted directly by your device at your instruction — we are not in that path.
We may disclose information where legally required to protect rights, prevent fraud, or comply with a valid legal request.
7. Security & retention
We keep support and purchase records only as long as needed for the purposes above, tax/legal obligations, and reasonable dispute handling. Local application data stays on your device and is under your control; deleting the app or its data folder removes it. No transmission over the internet is perfectly secure, so we design around collecting as little as possible in the first place.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example the EU/EEA under GDPR, the UK, or California under the CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port the personal data we hold, and to object to certain processing. Because our records are limited to purchase and support emails, these requests are easy to honor. To exercise them, emailhello@mocklay.com and we'll respond without undue delay.
9. Children
Our software and website are intended for professional and adult developers and are not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
10. Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the apps or site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
